Posted November 24, 2018 07:18:15 We already have a ton of carbon capture plants around the world.
Now a team from the University of Maryland is planning to build one in the United States.
The University of Marydna announced the plans on Thursday.
The facility will be built in the city of Baltimore and be called the Maryland Carbon Capture and Storage Facility (CCCF).
It’s expected to cost about $1 billion and will be constructed in two phases.
The first phase will consist of about 15,000 megawatts of power.
The second phase will use the same energy and will have a capacity of about 30,000 MW.
The team is planning for the plant to be operational by 2025.
“The energy generated will be used to drive an array of photovoltaic cells to capture CO2 and use it to produce electricity,” the university said in a press release.
The company behind the project is TerraForm Power.
The press release also noted that the facility will not use waste materials, which will help reduce the greenhouse gas emissions.
The project is expected to be complete by 2025, according to a press statement. Read more
